How do you get Southwest to answer? ›

When in doubt, call the carrier's customer service line and ask an agent to check how full the flight is.

Buy upgraded boarding (when available)

You can purchase that either on the day of travel at the ticket desk or gate, or within 24 hours of takeoff on Southwest's website. It's $30 to $80 per segment depending on your itinerary.

Usually the best way to do that is by using the airline's own app to manage your booking. Using the seat map checker is the fastest way to keep an eye on what seats are available.

If a flight has few seats left, Southwest's website will show the number of seats left below the price in small, red text. But these are the only seats remaining under a certain fare class, not necessarily the last seats on the plane.

The slightly larger Boeing 737-800 has 175 seats, each with a width of 17 inches and a pitch of 32 to 33 inches.

I suggest that you contact Southwest Airlines Customer Relations with your complaint at 855-234-4654 or email them by clicking on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the Southwest homepage.

Cases can take up to 30 days to receive a response.
